Have you ever felt like your soul is just… drifting? You wake up, the phone is already buzzing in your hand, the kids are screaming for breakfast, and your to-do list is screaming even louder. By 10:00 AM, you’re already exhausted, reactive, and feeling completely disconnected from the One who created you.
Is this the life God called you to? No!
Is it possible to feel grounded, peaceful, and powered by the Holy Spirit before your feet even hit the floor? Absolutely!
Listen, sis, I’ve been there. I’ve spent years "fitting God in" when it was convenient. I’d treat my Bible like a lucky charm: something I’d rub for a quick verse when things got stressful, rather than the Daily Bread that sustains my very life. But let me tell you a hard truth: a "convenient" faith is a shallow faith. If you want to walk in your divine calling and step into the woman God designed you to be, you need a Morning Anchor.
You need a habit that isn't just a checked box, but a spiritual lifeline. Let’s get real about how we build a Bible habit that actually sticks.
Fact #1: Your Morning is a Battleground
The moment you open your eyes, a war begins for your attention. The enemy knows that if he can get you to focus on your emails, the news, or your insecurities first thing in the morning, he’s already won the first round. He wants you distracted. He wants you frantic. Why? Because a distracted woman is a powerless woman.
When you choose to open the Word before you open your world, you are engaging in spiritual warfare. You are declaring that God is the King of your schedule and the Captain of your soul.
"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." : Psalm 5:3
Spiritual Truth: Seeking God first isn't just a "nice idea": it is a tactical necessity for the believer. When we give Him our first fruits, He sanctifies the rest of our day.
Fact #2: Motivation is a Liar, Discipline is a Friend
We often wait to "feel" like reading the Bible. We wait for that magical, holy spark to hit us while we’re sipping tea in perfect lighting. Guess what? Most days, that spark isn't coming. You’re going to be tired. You’re going to be annoyed that the alarm went off.
Discipline is doing what you said you would do, long after the mood you said it in has left you. Building a habit isn't about emotion; it’s about stewardship. You are stewarding the time God has given you. Research shows it takes about three months: 90 days: for a routine to become an automatic habit. If you give up on day 21 because "you aren't feeling it," you’re robbing yourself of the transformation that happens in the deep end.
Truth vs. Lie: The "Not a Morning Person" Myth
The Lie: "I’m just not a morning person. God understands if I just pray while I’m driving to work or scroll through a verse on Instagram at lunch."
The Truth: While God is everywhere, there is a specific, potent power in giving Him your stillness. If you aren't a "morning person," it usually means you need to adjust your evening person habits. Are you staying up late scrolling through reels of people you don’t even know? That is a trade-off. You are trading your spiritual peace for cheap entertainment.
If you want to grow in grace-filled living, you have to be willing to sacrifice the "good" (an extra hour of Netflix) for the "Great" (intimacy with the Father).
How to Battle: Setting Up Your Station
If you want this habit to stick, you have to eliminate friction. You need to create a "Sacred Space" that calls to you.
- Pick Your Spot: Find a corner, a chair, or a desk that is your designated meeting place with God.
- Gather Your Tools: Don't spend 10 minutes looking for a pen. Have your Bible, your planner, your highlighters, and your journal ready to go the night before.
- The "No-Phone" Zone: Do not bring your phone into your Sacred Space. Use a physical Bible. If you use a Bible app, you are one notification away from a 20-minute spiral into Pinterest. Protect your focus.
Fact #3: Small Seeds Produce Massive Harvests
One of the biggest reasons we fail is that we try to do too much at once. We decide we’re going to wake up at 4:00 AM and read five books of the Bible in one sitting. By day three, we’re exhausted and discouraged.
God isn't impressed by the quantity of your minutes; He is moved by the quality of your heart. Start with 15 minutes.
- 5 Minutes: Silence and Prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to His truth.
- 5 Minutes: Reading the passage. Read it once for the "story," and a second time to see what sticks out to you.
- 5 Minutes: Response. Write down one thing you learned or one way you will apply that Word today.
As you grow, your appetite will grow. But you have to plant the seed first. You can't expect a growth and gratitude harvest if you haven't even put the seed in the dirt.
Truth vs. Lie: "I Don't Understand the Bible"
The Lie: "The Bible is too confusing and boring. I don't get anything out of it."
The Truth: The Bible is a living, breathing document. If you find it "boring," it’s likely because you’re reading it like a textbook rather than a love letter from your Creator. The Holy Spirit is your Teacher. Before you read, pray: "Lord, show me something today that changes my heart." He will be faithful to do it.
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." : Matthew 6:33
Spiritual Truth: Your focus determines your reality. When you seek the Kingdom first, the "noise" of the world starts to fade into the background. You gain a "North Star" that guides your decisions, your parenting, and your business.
The Strategy: Habit Stacking
If you’re struggling with time management, try "habit stacking." This is when you anchor your new habit (Bible reading) to an existing one.
- The Coffee Anchor: "I will not take my first sip of coffee until I have read one Psalm."
- The Bed Anchor: "Before I check my phone in the morning, I will say 'Good morning, Holy Spirit' and read my daily verse."
When you link these actions together, your brain starts to see them as one singular movement. It takes the "should I or shouldn't I" out of the equation.
My Wake-Up Call: When I Reached the End of Myself
A few years ago, I was "successful" by worldly standards. My business was growing, my house was clean, and I looked like I had it all together. But on the inside? I was a mess. I was snappy with my kids, anxious about my finances, and I felt like I was running on a treadmill that never stopped.
I realized I was trying to do God's work without God's power. I was trying to be "Her": the visionary, the leader, the mom: without the Anchor.
I had to get back to the basics. I started waking up 30 minutes earlier. I started using a Bible highlighting guide to really engage with the text. And slowly, the anxiety started to lift. My perspective shifted from "What do I have to do today?" to "What is God doing today?"
Sis, you are a masterpiece in progress. You are a key part of the plan. But you cannot fulfill your mission if you are spiritually dehydrated.
What to Do Next: Your 7-Day Challenge
I’m not asking you to commit to a year. I’m asking you to commit to seven days.
- Tonight: Set your alarm 20 minutes earlier than usual.
- Tonight: Put your Bible and journal on your nightstand or designated spot.
- Tomorrow Morning: Do not touch your phone. Go straight to your Anchor.
- Repeat: Do this for seven days straight.
If you stumble, don't stay down! If you miss a day, don't let the enemy tell you that you’ve failed. Just pick up the next day. This isn't about perfection; it’s about presence.
You are a daughter of the King. You were meant to live with a clear vision and a steady heart. It’s time to drop the anchor and see what God can do with your "Yes."
Go get 'em, sis. I’m rooting for you!
In His Grace,
