Soul Rest: Moving from Busy to Blessed in Motherhood

Do you feel it? That low-grade hum of anxiety vibrating in your chest from the moment your feet hit the floor? Are you living your life from a place of "just getting through the day"?

Will it be easy to change? No! But is it necessary for your soul to survive? Absolutely.

Sis, I see you. I see the pile of laundry that has become a permanent fixture in the corner of your room. I see the digital calendar filled with appointments, soccer practices, and grocery lists. But mostly, I see a woman who loves Jesus and loves her family, yet feels like she is drowning in the "busy."

The world tells us that "busy" is a badge of honor. It tells us that if we aren't exhausted, we aren't doing enough. But I’m here as your spiritual big sister to tell you a hard truth: The Enemy loves a busy woman because a busy woman is often too distracted to hear the voice of her Creator.

Today, we are moving from the "busy" mindset to the "blessed" mindset. We are reclaiming our peace. We are finding Soul Rest.

Truth vs. Lie: The Battle for Your Mind

Before we can change our schedules, we have to change our minds. Motherhood is a high Calling. It is a spiritual assignment. But the Enemy wants to twist that assignment into a heavy burden.

Lie #1: "I have to do it all perfectly for my children to be okay."
Truth #1: Your children don’t need a perfect mother; they need a mother who is perfectly resting in the grace of Jesus.

Lie #2: "Rest is a reward for when the work is finished."
Truth #2: Rest is a requirement so that the work can be done with a spirit of Joy.

When we operate from "busy," we are operating out of our own strength. When we operate from "blessed," we are operating out of His. Our bible study planner isn't just about checking off chapters; it’s about anchoring your heart in the Truth before the world tries to pull you away.

Fact #1: Your "Busy" is Often a Lack of Boundaries

Let’s get real for a second. Sometimes we are busy because life is demanding. But other times, we are busy because we haven't learned to say "no" to the things that aren't part of our God-given Vision.

Stewardship isn't just about how you spend your money; it’s about how you spend your life. Are you stewarding your time in a way that honors the Lord? Or are you giving your "yes" to everyone except the One who created you?

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." : Matthew 11:28-29

Spiritual Truth: Soul Rest is not the absence of activity; it is the presence of God in the midst of it.

If you are struggling to find that North Star in your daily routine, you need a tool that helps you prioritize your Spirit. Using a christian planner allows you to map out your day around your prayer life, rather than trying to squeeze God into the cracks of a frantic schedule.

The Wake-Up Call: My Laundry Room Meltdown

A few years ago, I found myself sitting on the floor of my laundry room, literally crying over a basket of mismatched socks. I felt invisible, unappreciated, and utterly drained. I looked up and said, "Lord, I can't do this anymore. I am so tired of being busy."

And in that still, small voice, He whispered to my heart: "Charlet, you aren't tired because of the socks. You’re tired because you’ve stopped looking at the blessings and started looking at the burdens."

That was my wake-up call. I realized that I had stopped seeing my children as heritage (Psalm 127:3) and started seeing them as "tasks." I had stopped seeing my home as a sanctuary and started seeing it as a job site. I had to pivot from "busy" to "blessed."

How to Battle: 4 Steps to Reclaim Your Peace

If you are ready to stop the cycle of exhaustion and start living in the abundance Jesus promised, here is your battle plan.

1. Audit Your Heart

Take a piece of paper or open your Growth and Gratitude journal and write down everything that is making you feel "busy" right now. Now, ask the Holy Spirit to show you which of those things are "God-assignments" and which are "Self-assignments." Cross off the things He didn't ask you to carry.

2. Practice "Micro-Rest"

You might not have four hours to go to a spa (wouldn't that be nice?), but you have four minutes. Throughout the day, stop. Breathe. Recite a scripture. This is how we keep our roots deep in the soil of His love even when the wind is blowing.

3. Use Tools for Intentionality

Don't let your day run you; you run your day under the authority of Christ. Whether you are using a digital planner or a physical one, make sure your first appointment of the day is with Him. When we prioritize the King, the Kingdom takes care of the rest.

4. Organize Your Spiritual Life

I love using Bible Tabs because they make my Bible feel accessible and organized. When I’m in a rush: which, let’s be honest, is often: I don’t want to struggle to find the Word I need. Visual reminders of organization can actually calm your nervous system!

Fact #2: You Are a Masterpiece, Not a Machine

The world wants you to function like a machine: consistent, tireless, and predictable. But God created you as a Masterpiece. Masterpieces require care. They require specific lighting, the right environment, and a Master’s touch to maintain their beauty.

When you refuse to rest, you are essentially saying to the Creator, "I don't trust Your timing, so I have to hurry."

Trust follows faith. If we believe He is who He says He is, we can afford to sit at His feet like Mary, even while the "Martha" chores are calling our names.

Spiritual Truth: The Power of the Sabbath Mindset

In the Old Testament, the Sabbath was a law. In the New Testament, through Jesus, the Sabbath is a person. We can enter into His rest every single day.

"For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His." : Hebrews 4:10

Moving from busy to blessed means you stop trying to "earn" your worth through your productivity. You are already worthy because of the sacrifice made on the Cross. This Easter season, as we reflect on the unconditional love of Jesus, remember that He died to give you life: and life more abundantly (John 10:10). "Abundant life" does not mean an "abundantly full calendar." It means an abundantly full soul.

Practical Application: Refilling Your Cup

You cannot pour from an empty cup, Mama. It’s a cliché because it’s true. If you are snapping at your kids and feeling resentful toward your husband, your cup is dry.

What to Do Today:

  1. Identify your "Refill Stations": Is it a walk in nature? A 15-minute Bible highlighting session? A cup of tea while reading a faith-based article?
  2. Schedule it: Put it in your christian planner. Treat it as an unbreakable appointment.
  3. Repent of the "Hustle": Ask God to forgive you for trusting in your own busyness more than His providence.

You Are Not Alone in This

Sis, the transition from busy to blessed isn't a one-time event; it’s a daily choice. Some days you will nail it. Other days, you’ll find yourself back on the laundry room floor. And that is okay! Grace covers the gap.

You are a winner. You are a key part of the plan God has for your family and your community. But you can only fulfill that plan if you are healthy: spiritually, mentally, and physically.
