Brave in the Palace: What Belle and Esther Teach Us About Courage and Calling

Will it be easy to step into your calling when the world feels like it's crashing down? No! Will it require you to face "beasts" that make your heart race and your knees knock? Absolutely.

But Sis, let me tell you something: you weren’t created to stay hidden in the village, and you certainly weren't designed to be a victim of your circumstances. You were designed for the Palace.

In this third installment of our "Disney Princesses vs. Women of the Bible" series, we are diving deep into the lives of two women who were plucked from their ordinary lives and dropped into the center of a royal storm: Belle and Queen Esther. One is a tale as old as time; the other is a Truth as eternal as the Heavens. Both show us that when God (or providence, in Belle’s narrative) places you in a "beast" of a situation, it isn't to destroy you, it’s to refine you and use you to break a curse.

Whether you are currently navigating a season of transition or feeling the weight of a heavy calling, I want you to grab your faith journal and a cup of tea. We’re going to look at what it truly means to be Brave in the Palace.

Fact #1: Courage is Not the Absence of Fear

We often think that women like Esther or Belle were born with nerves of steel. We see Belle walking into a dark, cursed castle or Esther approaching a King whose scepter determined life or death, and we think, "I could never do that."

Fact: Courage is acting in the face of fear, not in its absence.

When Belle offered herself in place of her father, her voice trembled. When Esther heard Mordecai’s challenge, her first response wasn’t "Sign me up!", it was a reminder of the laws that could get her killed. Both women were terrified. But they both realized that someone else’s freedom was more important than their own safety.

The enemy wants to convince you that because you feel fear, you aren't ready for your calling. He is a liar! Fear is often the indicator that you are standing at the threshold of a Divine Assignment.

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" , Esther 4:14

Spiritual Truth: Your position is not a mistake. Your "Palace" (whether that’s a new job, a difficult family situation, or a leadership role) is the exact place where your courage is meant to shine.

Truth vs. Lie: The Source of Your Power

In a world obsessed with filters and followers, it is so easy to get caught up in the "surface-level" beauty. But in the Palace, outward beauty is only the entrance fee; it is inner beauty and faith that actually change the world.

The Lie The Truth
Your "look" or "status" is what gives you influence. Your character and your connection to the Father are your true influence.
You have to be "the best" to be chosen by God. God qualifies the called; He doesn't just call the qualified.
If you are in a hard situation, you must have done something wrong. Sometimes the hardest situations are where the greatest breakthroughs happen.

Belle was "odd" to her village because she wanted more than a provincial life. Esther was an orphan in a foreign land. Neither fit the worldly mold of a "power player." Yet, Belle’s ability to see past the Beast’s exterior transformed a whole household, and Esther’s fast-led faith saved an entire nation.

If you’ve been feeling like an outsider, start using your bible study planner to dig into the lives of women God used despite their "oddness." You are a masterpiece in the making, Sis.

Facing the "Beast" of Your Circumstances

Both Belle and Esther faced a "beast." For Belle, it was a literal, hairy, angry creature. For Esther, it was the spirit of Haman, a beast of pride, genocide, and hatred.

How do you handle the beastly situations in your life? Do you shrink back, or do you stand your ground?

Belle didn’t change the Beast by being a doormat. She spoke truth to him. She challenged his temper. She looked for the "man" (the purpose) underneath the "beast" (the problem).

Esther didn't just walk into the King's court on a whim. She prepared. She fasted. She invited her community into the battle. She understood that spiritual warfare requires a strategy.

When you are facing a "beast", whether it's a financial crisis, a health battle, or a toxic environment, remember that you are there to bring the light of the Kingdom into that dark space. You are a steward of the grace God has given you.

How to Battle: Practical Steps for the Brave

In the "Spiritual Spa" of our lives, we must be intentional. We don't just "stumble" into courage; we cultivate it. If you want to walk in the boldness of Esther, you need a plan.

  1. Document the Vision: Use your christian planner to write down exactly what you feel God is calling you to do. Is it starting a business? Reconciling a marriage? Leading a ministry? Write it down. Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to "write the vision and make it plain."
  2. Track the "God-Winks": In a prayer journal, record every time you see God's hand moving. Esther didn't see God's name once in her book, but His fingerprints were everywhere. Tracking these moments builds your "courage muscles."
  3. Fast and Pray: Before you make your move, seek the Father. Silence the noise of the world so you can hear the whisper of the King.
  4. Identify Your "Mordecai": Who is the mentor in your life pushing you toward your purpose? Lean into that community. We weren't meant to be brave alone.

Fact #2: You Are the Key to Someone Else’s Freedom

Belle’s courage broke a curse that affected everyone in the castle. Esther’s courage stopped a decree of death that affected millions.

Your "Yes" to God is never just about you. There are people attached to your obedience. There are chains that will only break when you step into your Palace and speak up.

Are you willing to say, "If I perish, I perish"? That isn't a statement of defeat; it’s a statement of total surrender to a higher purpose. It’s saying, "My comfort is a small price to pay for His Glory."

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." , Proverbs 31:30

Spiritual Truth: True beauty is found in a heart that is anchored in the Lord, regardless of the "beasts" roaring outside the door.

A Note from My Heart to Yours

Sis, I’ve had my own "palace" moments where I felt completely out of place and utterly terrified. There were times when I looked at the vision God gave me for Charlet's Stationery and thought, "I’m just a girl from a small village; who am I to lead this?"

But then I remember Esther. I remember that God doesn't look for the most "qualified" person in the room; He looks for the one who is willing to be brave enough to say "Yes."

You are a daughter of the King. You are a masterpiece. You are a key part of the plan. Don't let the enemy tell you that your voice doesn't matter or that your situation is too messy for God to use.

Abstract transition from storm to sunrise

Go get your faith journal and start writing your own "For Such a Time as This" declaration. The Palace is waiting, and your King is already there, holding out the scepter of Grace.

Stay brave, stay intentional, and keep your eyes on the North Star of His Word.

With so much love and belief in you,

Charlet Billings
