Summer Sabbath: How to Rest and Reset in God’s Presence This Season

Will it be easy to stop? No!

Will the laundry suddenly stop piling up just because the sun is out? Absolutely not.

But will your soul wither if you keep running on "empty" while the world outside is in full bloom? Yes, it will.

Sister, we need to talk about the "Summer Slump." Not the one where your productivity dips, but the one where your spiritual fire starts to flicker because you’ve replaced the Living Water with iced lattes and a packed social calendar. We treat summer like a sprint to see how many memories we can jam into ninety days, but the Father is inviting you into something deeper. He is inviting you into a Summer Sabbath.

This isn't just about taking a nap (though, praise God for naps!). It’s about a rhythmic, intentional turning back to the One who designed the seasons. It’s about recognizing that your "calling" isn't just to do; it’s to be His masterpiece.

The Great Deception of the Season

In the "Spiritual Spa" of a Grace-Led Life, we have to start by identifying the whispers of the enemy that keep us from the rest we were created for.

The Lie The Truth
"I'll rest when the kids are back in school." "Rest is a command for now, not a reward for later."
"If I stop, everything will fall apart." "The world is held together by His hands, not your hustle."
"Quiet time is for the winter when it's cold outside." "The longer days are a gift intended for deeper connection."

Fact #1: You Were Designed for Rhythm, Not Rescue

We often treat rest like a rescue mission. We wait until we are burnt out, crying in the pantry, and then we "retreat" to survive. But God didn’t design Sabbath as an emergency brake; He designed it as a rhythm.

"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done." : Genesis 2:1–2

Spiritual Truth: If the Creator of the universe: the One who never sleeps nor slumbers: chose to stop and breathe in the beauty of His creation, who are we to think we can outwork Him? Stewardship of your life begins with stewardship of your energy. When you use your Christian planner to schedule everything except your rest, you are essentially telling God that your to-do list is more sovereign than His design.

Fact #2: Trust is the Highest Form of Worship

Sabbath is a middle finger to the spirit of the world that says your worth is tied to your work. Taking a full day: or even a dedicated block of hours: to put down the phone and pick up your faith journal is an act of spiritual warfare.

It says to the enemy: "I don't have to provide for myself today because my Father is my Provider." It anchors your heart in the "North Star" of His grace rather than the shifting sands of your productivity.

Fact #3: Longer Days Demand Deeper Roots

The beauty of summer is the light. Those golden hours that stretch into the evening are not just for backyard BBQs; they are a divine invitation to stay a little longer in His presence. If you are struggling to find "quiet" in a house full of kids on summer break, use the light! Wake up with the sun, take your prayer journal to the porch, and let the warmth of the sun remind you of the warmth of His love.

How to Battle the "Busy" This Summer

If you want to experience a true Summer Sabbath, you have to fight for it. The enemy wants you distracted, dehydrated (spiritually!), and disconnected. Here is your battle plan:

  1. Audit Your "Yes": Open your faith-based planner and look at July. If every weekend is "on the go," you are setting yourself up for a September crash. Cancel one thing. Just one. Give that time back to the Lord.
  2. Digital Fasting: You cannot hear the "still, small voice" if you are listening to the "loud, constant notifications." On your Sabbath day, put the phone in a drawer. If it feels like a withdrawal, that’s exactly why you need to do it.
  3. Prepare the Soil: Sabbath isn't restful if you spend the whole day thinking about the dishes. Spend Saturday evening "closing down" the house. Fold the laundry, clear the counters, and set out your Bible study tools so you wake up to an environment of peace.
  4. A "Joy List": What replenishes you? Is it gardening? An unhurried walk? Writing in your prayer journal? Make a list of five things that make you feel like a "winner" in God’s eyes and do them without guilt.

Your Summer Sabbath Template

Don't overcomplicate it, sister. We are going for a "Spiritual Spa" vibe here: airy, peaceful, and intentional. Use this simple rhythm for your Sabbath morning:

Step 1: Stillness (10 Minutes)
Put away the noise. Sit outside. Breathe. Don't ask for anything. Just say, "Lord, I am here, and I am Yours."

Step 2: Meditative Reading (20 Minutes)
Pick a Summer Psalm (Psalm 19 or 104 are beautiful for this). Read it slowly. If a word jumps out at you, underline it. Use your stationery accessories to mark the pages that speak to your soul.

Step 3: Journaling the Harvest (20 Minutes)
Write down three things God has grown in you since the spring. We often miss the "seeds" that have become "trees" because we are too busy looking for the next thing to plant. Record your gratitudes in your faith journal.

Step 4: Affirmation (5 Minutes)
Ending your time by speaking truth over your identity. Use your faith-based affirmation cards to remind yourself that you are a key part of His plan, regardless of how much you "accomplished" today.

A Wake-Up Call from My Own Garden

I’ll be honest with you: there was a summer a few years ago where I didn't take a single Sabbath. I thought I was "stewarding" my business by working 24/7. By August, I was bitter, exhausted, and couldn't even enjoy a sunset because I was thinking about my inbox. I had plenty of "surface-level" success, but my roots were dry.

I had to learn the hard way that money follows faith, and faith requires rest. When I finally stopped and gave God my Saturdays again, my creativity exploded. Why? Because I was finally plugged back into the Source.

You don't have to earn your rest. You were born into it the moment you became His.

So, this week, I want you to look at your calendar. Find that white space. Guard it like the treasure it is. The Grace-Led Life isn't about doing more; it's about being more of who He called you to be.

I see you, I’m praying for you, and I can’t wait to see what God grows in your quiet moments this season.

Stay rooted,

Charlet
