Are you tired of feeling like your faith is just a heavy checklist of “don’ts”? Do you look at the Ten Commandments and see a fence keeping you in, rather than a gate opening to your destiny?
Let’s get real for a second. Will it be easy to shift your perspective? No! But is it necessary for the woman of God who wants to walk in true authority? Absolutely.
Welcome back to our series, Exodus: The Names. Today, we are stepping into the smoke and thunder of Sinai, but we aren’t there to tremble in fear. We are there to reclaim our identity. We are looking at Exodus 20 not as a restrictive legal code, but as the Torah of Freedom.
In our community at The Grace-Led Life, we talk a lot about living with purpose. Today, we’re going to see how God’s original "Instructions" were designed to empower you, protect you, and give you a seat at the table.
Fact #1: Torah Means Teaching, Not Just "The Law"
For too long, the enemy has used the word "Law" to make us feel like God is a cosmic hall monitor waiting for us to trip up. But as a Reclaimer, I want you to swap that word out. In Hebrew, the word is Torah.
Torah doesn't mean "do this or else." It means Instruction, Teaching, or Guidance.
Think of it as the ultimate "How-To" guide for a high-performance life. When a manufacturer gives you a manual for a luxury car, they aren't trying to limit your driving; they are trying to ensure you don't blow the engine! God, the Master Creator, looked at His daughters and said, "I love you too much to let you live without a North Star."
The Torah is the Heart of the Father reaching out to lead us into a life that actually works. It is the foundation for everything we do in our Faith & Bible Study journey.
The Revolutionary Weight of a Woman: The 5th Commandment
If you’ve ever felt like your voice doesn't matter in the boardroom, the classroom, or even your own living room, I need you to lean in close.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." : Exodus 20:12
In the ancient world, women were often treated as secondary citizens, invisible in the eyes of the law. But look at what God does here. He places "Mother" on the exact same level as "Father."
The Hebrew word used for "Honor" is Kabbid.
Spiritual Truth: Kabbid literally translates to "Weight" or "Glory."
When God commanded the Israelites to Kabbid their mothers, He was telling the entire nation that a woman carries Spiritual Weight. He was saying that a woman’s presence, her wisdom, and her role in the family have a "glory" that must be recognized.

This wasn't just about being "nice" to Mom. This was a radical declaration of equal importance. In a society where women were often ignored, God wrote it in stone: Give her weight. Give her glory. Treat her as a pillar of society.
As a modern woman striving for professional goals and personal growth, you need to know that your "weight" doesn't come from your paycheck or your followers. Your Kabbid was granted to you by the Almighty at Sinai. You are a heavyweight in the Kingdom!
Fact #2: Boundaries are Your Security Detail
We often view the "Thou Shalt Nots" as God being a killjoy. But let’s look at this through the lens of empowerment.
Before the Torah, women were frequently treated as property: movable goods to be taken or traded. But then God stepped in and set boundaries that changed everything.
When God says, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" and "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife," He isn't just protecting the "sanctity of marriage." He is establishing Dignity and Security for the woman.
He was effectively saying: She is not an object. She is not a commodity. She is a person under My protection.
These commandments created a "hedge of protection" around women. They declared that a woman’s body, her heart, and her home were off-limits to the whims of men. For the modern woman, this is a reminder that God is the author of your boundaries. Whether you are navigating the dating world or setting boundaries in your business, know that God’s Word backs you up. You are a masterpiece, not a piece of property.
Truth vs. Lie: Reclaiming Your Mindset
The enemy loves to whisper lies about our value. Let’s use the Torah to do some spiritual warfare and flip the script.
-
The Lie: "Your value is based on how much you produce."
-
The Truth: The Sabbath commandment (the 4th Commandment) proves your value is inherent. God commands you to rest because you are a daughter, not a slave. Your worth is rooted in Him, not your hustle. (Check out our 75-Day Holy Girl Tracker to help find that rhythm of rest!)
-
The Lie: "You have to fight and claw to get what you want."
-
The Truth: "Thou shalt not steal" and "Thou shalt not covet" are reminders that God is your Provider. When you are Planning and Prospering, you don't have to look at what others have with envy. What God has for you is for you, and no one can take it.
How to Battle: Taking the Torah into Your Prayer Journal
Inspiration is great, but application is where the transformation happens! We want to move from "feeling good" to "living empowered."
If you are just starting out, I highly recommend our Bible Journaling 101 guide to help you document your journey.
Step 1: Identify Your "Weight"
Sit down with your journal this week. Write down the word KABBID at the top. List 5 areas of your life where you have been playing "small." Where have you been letting people ignore your "weight"? Pray over these areas and ask God to help you carry yourself with the dignity He gave you.
Step 2: Review Your Boundaries
Look at the Ten Commandments. Which one feels "restrictive" to you right now? Ask God to show you the heart behind it. For example, if you struggle with the Sabbath, ask Him: "Father, how is this rest intended to empower me for the week ahead?"
Step 3: Track Your Growth
Stewardship is a key part of the plan. Use a faith journal to track how your mindset shifts as you stop seeing "laws" and start seeing "love."

The Visionary Woman’s North Star
Sister, the Ten Commandments aren't a relic of the past; they are the blueprint for your future. When you walk in the Torah of Freedom, you aren't just following rules; you are walking in a Divine Vision.
You are a woman who knows her worth because her Father gave her "weight." You are a woman who is secure because her Father set the boundaries. You are a woman who is empowered because her Father gave her the "Instruction" to succeed.
You are a winner. You are a key part of the plan. And you are deeply, deeply loved.
Reflection Question for your Journal:
Which of the Ten Commandments feels most like "freedom" to you today, and how does it change the way you see your own importance in God’s eyes?
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Drop a comment below or share this with a sister who needs to be reminded of her "Kabbid" today.
Keep growing, keep prospering, and keep living that Grace-Filled Lifestyle.
Rooted in His Grace,
Charlet Billings
