What if I told you that you were meant to do far more than you could ever dream of? In addition, everything you have in life was yours even before you were born. Fun fact: you are one in a trillion seed that God hand-picked to be born. Think about it… you were not an accident or a trial-and-error experiment in God’s great plan. You were chosen with intention, with love, and with purpose.
This truth doesn’t just apply to you. It also applies to our children, our passions and purposes, and every other blessing in our lives.
Which brings me to the true topic we’re going to explore today: motherhood.
You were hand-picked for your kids and vice versa. That means you have everything you need—every gift, every ounce of patience, every unique skill—to help them grow through the hardships and difficult moments you both face. Motherhood is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done—and continue to do. Yep, that’s right, I’m a mom of four children ranging from three years old all the way up to twenty-five. Every one of my children has had very different journeys with me, and every stage of motherhood has stretched me in ways I could have never imagined.
This week, motherhood hit me especially hard. School started back for us, and now all four of my kids are officially in school. On top of that, I recently returned to the workforce after taking nine months off to focus on my family and to return to Jesus. It’s been a balancing act, to say the least.
And here’s the secret I’ve learned:
The one thing that helps me have the best time with my kids and makes it easier to work through our hardships and growth opportunities is my time with God. Without this golden time of prayer, worship, and soaking in His Word, I would have lost my patience, raised my voice, or simply burned out.
When God comes first, He gives us the strength, grace, love, and perspective we need to work through the situations of motherhood and to fully embrace it.
How God Helps Us Through Motherhood
Motherhood is not something you master—it’s something you walk through daily with God by your side. Here are a few ways that He meets us right in the middle of it:
1. God Reminds Us We Are Never Alone
There are moments in motherhood when it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders—those nights when your toddler won’t sleep, those mornings when your teenager is slamming doors, or those seasons when you wonder if you’re making any impact at all.
In those moments, remember Jesus’ words: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, CSB).
Even when no one else sees the silent tears in the bathroom or the exhaustion on your face, God does. You are never walking this journey alone.
2. God Equips Us With Wisdom
Motherhood doesn’t come with a manual—but it does come with access to the living Word of God. He has promised that if we need wisdom, all we need to do is ask: “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him” (James 1:5, CSB).
There will be times you don’t know how to respond—when to say yes, when to say no, when to step in, or when to step back. These are the moments when God’s wisdom guides us beyond our own understanding.
3. God Restores Our Strength
Motherhood is draining. Some days it feels like you’re running on empty with nothing left to give. Between school runs, work responsibilities, endless laundry, and nurturing your children’s hearts, you can feel completely worn down.
But Isaiah 40:31 reminds us: “But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.”
God doesn’t expect you to pour out of an empty cup. He refills you daily with His Spirit so you can keep going—not in burnout, but in His strength.
4. God Gives Us Grace
Motherhood is humbling. We won’t always get it right. There will be days when we raise our voices, forget something important, or feel like we failed. But God’s grace covers us.
“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!” (Lamentations 3:22–23, CSB).
That means every day is a fresh start for you and your children. His grace doesn’t just cover your mistakes—it teaches you how to extend grace to your children, too.
5. God Teaches Us to Find Joy in the Small Moments
It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of motherhood and forget to enjoy the small, fleeting moments. But these are the moments that shape our hearts the most: bedtime snuggles, laughter in the car, inside jokes, or whispered prayers over your kids while they sleep.
Psalm 126:3 says, “The Lord has done great things for us; we were joyful.” Joy doesn’t always come from big milestones—it comes from slowing down and inviting God into everyday moments.
Real-Life Lessons from Motherhood
I’ve learned that God uses motherhood not just to grow my children, but also to grow me. Each of my children has reflected something different back to me: patience, forgiveness, perseverance, and unconditional love. Motherhood is one of God’s greatest tools for shaping our hearts to be more like His.
My oldest has taught me about letting go and trusting God with their future. My younger ones have reminded me about the importance of play and laughter. And my toddler? He’s teaching me about pure faith—because little children don’t worry about tomorrow. They simply trust that their needs will be met.
Isn’t that exactly what God asks of us? To trust Him like children trust their parents?
Encouragement for Tired Moms
If you’re in a season where you feel weary or unseen, let me encourage you: You were chosen. God hand-picked you for your children, and He doesn’t make mistakes. He sees every late-night prayer, every tear you cry, and every act of love that no one else notices.
When you feel like you can’t keep going, lean into Him. When you feel like you’ve messed up, remember His grace. And when you wonder if you’re making a difference, trust that the seeds you are planting in your children’s lives will grow in God’s perfect timing.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of motherhood. Thank You for entrusting us with the lives of our children and for equipping us with everything we need to guide them. When we feel weary, remind us that You are our strength. When we feel unsure, give us Your wisdom. When we feel like we’ve failed, cover us in Your grace. Help us to find joy in the everyday moments and to see our children the way You see them. We trust You with our families and our motherhood journey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Motherhood is not about perfection—it’s about walking hand in hand with God as you love and lead your children. Remember this truth today: you are hand-picked, chosen, and equipped. And with God by your side, you have everything you need to be the mother your children need.
