God Will Steer But You Must Roll: What Faith + Action Looks Like in Real Life

Will it be easy? No! Will it be worth it? Absolutely.

Are you sitting at your desk today, staring at a blank page in your faith journal, waiting for a lightning bolt of divine instruction before you dare to move a muscle? Maybe you’re whispering, “God, just show me the whole map, and then I’ll start walking.”

Sister, I’ve been there. I’ve sat in the "waiting room" of faith, paralyzing myself with the idea that if I don’t have a 10-year plan signed and sealed by Heaven, I shouldn’t take a single step. But here is the hard truth your spiritual big sister needs to tell you today: God will steer the boat, but you have to start rowing.

We serve a God of movement. He is a Master Navigator, but even the best Captain needs a boat that isn’t anchored to the dock of "someday." As we transition from the slow, golden days of summer into the intentional, cozy rhythm of the new season, it’s time to stop over-spiritualizing your procrastination and start rolling.

Excuse #1: "I'm Just Waiting on a Word from the Lord."

Let’s get real. Sometimes, "waiting on God" is actually a spiritual-sounding mask for the fear of making a mistake. We stay stuck because we’re afraid that if we move in the wrong direction, we’ll ruin His plan for our lives.

Fact Check: You are not powerful enough to ruin God’s plan for your life if your heart is truly seeking Him!

When you pick up your christian planner and begin to map out your goals, you aren't "taking over" for God. You are stewarding the mind and the time He gave you. Stewardship is an act of worship. If you stay parked, there’s nothing for Him to steer. But the moment you put the car in drive: even if you’re just idling forward: He can nudge your heart, close doors, and open windows.

"The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."
: Proverbs 16:9

Spiritual Truth: Planning is your responsibility; the outcome is His.

Truth vs. Lie: The Partnership of Purpose

We often fall into the trap of thinking our lives are either 100% us or 100% God. That is a lie from the enemy designed to make you either prideful or passive.

  • The Lie: If I work hard, it’s all on my shoulders. If I trust God, I don’t have to do anything.
  • The Truth: Faith and action are two sides of the same coin. God provides the power (the wind), but you provide the sails (the work).

Think of your faith journal as your war room. This is where you lay out the "seeds" God has placed in your heart. You can't make a seed grow: only God can do that. But you can water it, pull the weeds of distraction, and make sure it’s planted in the right soil. That is what "rolling" looks like. It’s showing up to the page every morning, even when you feel uninspired, and saying, "Lord, I’m here. What’s our first move?"

How to Battle: Moving from Inspiration to Application

It’s easy to feel "high" on a Sunday morning and then completely "flat" by a Tuesday afternoon. To stay in motion, you need practical tools that anchor your spirit to your schedule. Here is how you start rolling today:

  1. Audit Your Time: If you say you’re "waiting on God" for a business idea or a ministry calling, but your mental health planner shows four hours of scrolling and zero hours of study, you aren't waiting: you’re hiding. Track your time for three days. The results will tell you if you’re actually in the boat or just sitting on the pier.
  2. Use Prayer Journal Prompts: Don't just vent to God; ask Him for marching orders. Use your inspirational stickers to mark the "Big Visions" He’s given you, and then break them down into "Next Steps."
  3. The 5-Minute Rule: If a task takes five minutes (like sending that email or buying that domain name), do it immediately. These small "rolls" create the momentum God uses to steer you toward your destiny.

Transitioning with Intention: The "Cozy Weather" Reset

As the air gets crisper and we reach for our chunky knits and Petal Pink blankets, use this seasonal shift as a "North Star" for your habits. Summer was for resting; Fall is for harvesting.

The transition from summer to the "cozy" season is the perfect time to deepen your roots. When life slows down and moves indoors, your prayer journal should become your closest companion. Use this time to get quiet, but don't stay silent. Use those positive affirmation stickers to remind yourself that you are a Masterpiece: not a finished product, but a work in progress that is actively moving forward.

God is the Anchor, But You are the Engine

The enemy wants you to think that "trusting God" means being a bystander in your own life. He wants you to believe that if you try and fail, you’ve somehow let God down.

Hard Truth: Money follows faith. Success follows stewardship. Impact follows action.

God is not looking for a "perfect" rower; He’s looking for a willing one. He can redirect a moving ship much easier than a sunken one. If you’ve been feeling stuck, uninspired, or paralyzed by the "What Ifs," I want you to pick up your pen today. Write down one thing you’ve been "waiting" for God to do, and then ask yourself: "What is the one thing I can do today to show Him I’m ready for the answer?"

What to Do Right Now:

  • Write it down: Use your faith based planner to list 3 goals for the next 30 days.
  • Identify the "Roll": For each goal, identify the physical action required of you.
  • Pray the Partnership: "Lord, I am picking up the oars. I trust You to steer me into the deep waters of Your purpose."

You are a winner. You are a key part of the plan. It’s time to stop standing still and start rolling into the magnificent calling He has prepared for you.

Stay rooted, stay moving, and let’s grow together.

With so much love,

Charlet Billings
