From Sunup to Sundown: A Summer Bible Reading Plan for Busy Women

Will it be easy to stay consistent in the Word while the kids are home, the vacations are booked, and the sun is beckoning you outside? No!

But will it be worth it? Absolutely.

Sis, I know the feeling. Summer arrives with its promise of "loose schedules," yet somehow, your days feel more crowded than a Saturday morning at the farmers' market. The rhythm you worked so hard to build in the spring: that quiet 6:00 AM coffee and Scripture time: has been hijacked by late-night bonfires and early-morning "Mom, I’m hungry" wake-up calls.

The enemy loves to use the "change of season" as a tactical distraction. He whispers that because your routine looks different, your devotion should be paused. He wants you to believe that if you can't give God a dedicated hour in a silent room, it’s not worth giving Him anything at all.

That is a lie.

We are stewards of our time, and stewardship requires us to be agile. Your calling doesn't go on summer vacation. Your vision doesn't take a break just because the temperature rose. You are a masterpiece in progress, and the Word of God is the daily bread that sustains your transformation.

The Summer Struggle: Fact vs. Feeling

Before we dive into the plan, we have to address the mindset shifts necessary to thrive this season. We aren't just looking for a "to-do" list; we are looking for a "to-be" lifestyle.

Fact #1: Flexibility is not Failure.

We often confuse a "loose schedule" with "lack of discipline." In the Kingdom, discipline is about the heart's posture, not just the clock's hands. If you move your Bible reading from the desk to the poolside while the kids splash, you haven't failed. You’ve successfully integrated your faith into your current reality.

Excuse #1: "I don’t have a 'Quiet Time' anymore."

Let’s get real. The "Quiet Time" concept can sometimes become an idol. If you are waiting for the perfect, Pinterest-worthy silence to open your Bible, you might not open it until September! God is the Creator of the noise, too. He can speak through the chaos of a summer afternoon just as clearly as He does in the stillness of dawn.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." : Matthew 11:28

Spiritual Truth: True rest isn't found in a lack of activity; it is found in the Presence of the Father.

Truth vs. Lie: The Summer Edition

Lie: I'll catch up on my Bible study when things "slow down" in the fall.
Truth: Spiritual hunger doesn't wait for a convenient season. If you starve your spirit all summer, you'll enter the fall depleted and vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes.

Lie: Using a bible study planner or bible reading tracker is "legalistic."
Truth: Structure is a tool for freedom. Visual trackers and planners are physical anchors that help you steward your "God-given purpose" when your mind is pulled in a thousand directions.

How to Battle: Defeating Summer Distractions

When the "North Star" of your routine starts to fade, you need a battle plan. Here is how you fight for your time with Him:

  1. Track Your Time, Not Your Perfection: Use our Bible Reading Tracker Sticker Sheets in your christian planner. Seeing those stickers line up isn't about "earning" grace; it's about seeing the evidence of your commitment.
  2. The 5-Minute Rule: If the house is exploding and the dog is barking, give God five minutes. Read the Anchor Verse, write it in your Dear God Prayer Book, and move on. He values the heart behind the five minutes more than the duration of the hour.
  3. Visual Prompts: Place our faith-based affirmation cards on your bathroom mirror or the car dashboard. These are your "spiritual spa" moments in the middle of the grind.
  4. Go Digital & Physical: Print out the Bible Highlighting Guide and keep it in your beach bag. When you do find 15 minutes of sun, you’ll know exactly how to engage deeply with the text.

How to Start Bible Journaling This Summer

If you’ve never tried journaling, summer is the perfect "low-stakes" time to start. You don't need to be an artist; you just need to be a listener.

  • Step 1: Pick a verse that "shimmered" for you during your reading.
  • Step 2: Write it out by hand. There is power in the connection between the pen and the soul.
  • Step 3: Ask: "Lord, what are You saying to me through this?"
  • Step 4: Write your response. It can be a prayer, a confession, or a "thank You."

Our Meditation Bloom Notebook is a fantastic companion for this: it combines space for notes with coloring elements to keep your hands busy while your heart meditates.

A Final Word of Encouragement

Sis, you are a key part of the Plan. Your growth this summer isn't just for you; it's for the people you are called to serve, the children you are called to raise, and the community you are called to lead. Don't let the "busy-ness" of the sun steal the "business" of the Son.

You are a winner. You are a masterpiece. And you are deeply loved by a Father who isn't checking a time-clock: He’s looking at your heart.

Let’s make this summer the season where our roots go deep, even while our schedules fly high.

Stay intentional, stay graceful.

With love,

Charlet Billings
