Will it always feel like a mountaintop experience? No!
Will there be days when your heart feels as frozen as a mid-winter pond or as scattered as morning mist? Absolutely.
But here is the Truth that the world tries to hide from you: God is not just in the "feeling" of the flow. He is the Architect of the entire cycle. Whether you are in a season of solid stability, refreshing growth, quiet omnipresence, or universal outpouring, the Living Water is at work.
As a woman of purpose, you aren't just "getting through" these seasons; you are being stewarded by them. Just like the earth depends on the hydrologic cycle to sustain life, your soul depends on the various forms God’s presence takes to bring you into full maturity.
Grab your faith journal and a warm tea. Let’s dive into the four states of the Living Water and find out where your soul is resting today.
1. ICE: The Foundation of the Unchanging Rock
Sometimes, life feels stationary. You might feel "stuck," but what if you aren't stuck? What if you are being anchored? In the water cycle, ice is the solid state. It is stable, unchanging, and firm.
When the storms of life are howling, you don’t need a puddle; you need a Rock. This is God in His foundational nature: The Great I AM who does not shift with the cultural winds.

"He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he."
: Deuteronomy 32:4
Spiritual Truth: Stability is not stagnation; it is security.
Truth vs. Lie
- The Lie: "Nothing is happening. God has forgotten me because I don't feel a 'move' of the Spirit."
- The Truth: God is establishing your foundation. He is the Unchanging One (Malachi 3:6) ensuring that when the "flow" comes, you have the internal structure to handle the weight of the blessing.
Christian Journal Prompts for the Ice Season:
- What attributes of God (His faithfulness, His justice, His sovereignty) feel like a "Rock" to me right now?
- In what area of my life am I being called to stand firm rather than move forward?
2. FLOWING WATER: The Life-Giving Movement of the Spirit
Then, the thaw comes. The ice melts into a rushing stream. This is the season of Flowing Water. It’s active, it’s refreshing, and it’s deeply restorative. This is the Holy Spirit moving through you, guiding your steps and bringing rapid growth.
If you are in this season, you likely feel a "pull" toward new projects, deeper relationships, or fresh spiritual insights. You are being refreshed so that you can refresh others!

"Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them."
: John 7:38
Spiritual Truth: You cannot pour from an empty cup, but you can always flow from an eternal Spring.
How to Battle Stagnation:
The enemy loves to "dam up" your river with busyness or distraction. To keep the water flowing:
- Audit your "Intake": What are you reading? Who are you listening to?
- Schedule the Refreshment: Don't just "fit in" prayer. Use your prayer journal to track your conversations with the Father.
- Practice Gratitude: Flowing water stays clear because it’s moving. Gratitude keeps your spirit moving toward God.
Bible Journaling Prompts for the Flow Season:
- Read Ezekiel 47. Where do I see the "water" of the Spirit bringing life in my current circumstances?
- What "new thing" is the Holy Spirit prompting me to step into today?
3. VAPOR: The Omnipresent Breath of the Almighty
Have you ever had a season where God felt… invisible? You can’t point to a specific "miracle," and you can't feel the "rush" of the stream. You just know He is there, like the humidity in the air or the mist on a morning lake.
This is the Vapor state. It represents God’s omnipresence. Vapor is everywhere at once: unseen but completely essential. It is the pneuma, the Breath of God that fills every corner of your home, your office, and your heart.

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there."
: Psalm 139:7-8
Spiritual Truth: Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. He is the air you breathe.
Fact #1: You don't have to "summon" God. He is already there. The Vapor reminds us that He is the wind we can't see but whose effects we can feel (John 3:8). When you feel lonely, lean into the truth that you are literally enveloped in His presence.
Faith Journal Prompts for the Vapor Season:
- List 5 small ways I saw God's hand today, even if I didn't "feel" Him.
- How can I practice "practicing the presence of God" in my mundane tasks (laundry, emails, driving)?
4. RAIN: The Universal Grace that Sustains All
Finally, we have the Rain. This is grace in its most practical form. Rain falls on the just and the unjust alike (Matthew 5:45). It is the universal provision of God that sustains the entire ecosystem of your life.
Rain is what happens when the vapor "condenses" into a tangible blessing. It is the unexpected check in the mail, the word of encouragement from a stranger, or the strength to get through a hard day. Rain is God's Word coming down to water the dry ground of your soul so it can produce fruit.

"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish… so is my word that goes out from my mouth."
: Isaiah 55:10-11
Spiritual Truth: Grace is a gift you cannot earn, but you must be prepared to receive.
What to Do (How to Steward the Rain):
When the blessings are pouring down, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
- Record the Rain: Use a faith journal to document answered prayers. This builds your "spiritual reservoir" for future dry seasons.
- Share the Surplus: Rain is meant to water the earth, not just your own garden. How can your current blessings serve someone else?
Christian Journal Prompts for the Rain Season:
- What "seeds" have I planted in the past that are finally starting to "bud" because of God's current grace?
- How am I using the "rain" of God’s provision to bless those around me?
Stewardship of the Season
Whatever state of the Living Water Cycle you find yourself in today, know this: You are a masterpiece, a winner, and a key part of the Plan.
The enemy wants you to believe that if you aren't in a "Flowing" season, you've done something wrong. That is a lie from the pit! Even the Ice has a purpose. Even the Vapor is holy.
The key to a "Grace-Led Life" is learning to recognize which season you are in and responding with the right tools. Are you building on the Rock (Ice)? Are you moving with the Spirit (Flow)? Are you resting in His presence (Vapor)? Or are you receiving His provision (Rain)?
To truly track your growth and see the patterns of God's faithfulness, I want to encourage you to start a daily practice in your faith journal. Writing it down moves the "Vapor" of your thoughts into the "Solid" reality of your testimony.
Don't let this season pass without documenting how He met you there.
You were chosen for this. You are equipped for this. And you are never, ever walking through these cycles alone.
With love and grace,
Charlet Billings
