Will it be easy to transition from the high-energy chaos of summer to the intentional stillness of autumn? No! But is it necessary for your soul’s growth? Absolutely.
As the sun begins to set a little earlier and we trade our sunscreen for oversized sweaters, there is a shift happening in the atmosphere. It’s more than just a change in temperature; it’s a change in stewardship. I’ve been telling you all week: God will steer, but you must roll.
What does that look like when the seasons change? It means that while the Holy Spirit is directing the wind and the waves of your life, you are the one with your hands on the oars. You cannot drift into a deeper relationship with Him. You cannot "accidentally" find peace in a busy season. You have to roll. You have to move. You have to decide that your faith is worth the effort of a new rhythm.
The "Spiritual Spa" life isn't about doing nothing: it’s about doing the right things with divine intention. As we transition into the cozy season, here are 7 godly habits to help you steward your soul and keep rolling toward His purpose.
Habit #1: The Golden Hour with God
There is something sacred about a house that hasn't quite woken up yet. Before the emails start dinging and the kids start asking for breakfast, there is a window of time just for you and the Father.
As the mornings get crisp, make this your non-negotiable. Grab your favorite mug, fill it with something warm, and wrap yourself in a blanket. This isn't just "quiet time": it's an audience with the King. Use a prayer journal to write down your rawest thoughts. Tell Him what you’re afraid of this season. Tell Him what you’re dreaming of.
Spiritual Truth: "Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you." : Psalm 143:8 (NLT)
Habit #2: The Harvest of Gratitude
In the summer, we focus on the doing. In the fall, we focus on the harvesting. But if you aren't careful, the enemy will make you look at your "harvest" and only see what’s missing.
Gratitude is a weapon. It shifts your perspective from what you lack to how much He has provided. I want you to start a daily practice of writing down three "God-wonders" from your day. Did the light hit the trees just right? Did a friend send a text exactly when you needed it? Put it in your faith journal.

Habit #3: Lighting the Lamp (Scripture by Candlelight)
The days are getting shorter, and the darkness is creeping in earlier. This is your cue to bring more Light into your home.
Instead of scrolling through your phone as the sun goes down, light a candle and open your bible study planner. There is something about the physical act of lighting a flame that signals to your brain: This is holy time. Dive into the Word. Don’t just read it: study it. Use christian journal prompts to dig deep into the character of God. If the world feels dark, you must be the one to light the lamp in your own home.
Habit #4: The Sacred Slow-Down (Sabbath)
The transition to fall often comes with a "back-to-school" rush that can feel like a spiritual vacuum. If you don’t build an anchor, you will be swept away by the busyness.
Your anchor is the Sabbath. God didn’t rest because He was tired; He rested to set a rhythm. As we move into the cozy season, reclaim your 24 hours. No work. No "hustle." Just worship, rest, and delight. It is the ultimate act of trust to say, "The world will keep spinning even if I stop rolling for one day, because God is steering."
Habit #5: Warming the Home (Community in the Small)
Summer is for the big crowds and the barbecues. Fall is for the kitchen table and the deep conversations.
One of the most godly habits you can cultivate is the habit of connection. Invite one or two women over for tea and prayer. You don't need a three-course meal; you just need a willing heart. We were never meant to walk this "Grace-Led Life" alone. Who in your life needs a "Spiritual Spa" moment? Be the one to provide it.
Habit #6: The Seasonal Prune (Soul Decluttering)
Look at the trees. They are about to let go of everything they’ve grown over the last six months. They don't fight it. They know that in order to survive the winter and bloom in the spring, they must shed the old.
What are you carrying from summer that needs to stay there? Is it a habit of comparison? A commitment that no longer serves your calling? A bit of bitterness that has taken root? Before the new season fully sets in, take your christian planner and do a "Soul Audit." Ask God: What do I need to drop so I can be lighter for the journey ahead?
Spiritual Truth: "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." : John 15:2 (NIV)
Habit #7: Walking the Rhythm of Harvest and Rest
Finally, embrace the rhythm God has already set in nature. Fall is a time of both harvest and preparation. You are rolling toward a finish line, but you are also preparing for a season of internal growth.
Use your tools to stay organized. Whether you are tracking your goals in a christian planner or seeking one-on-one coaching to find your "North Star," do it with intention. Don't just let the season happen to you. Participate in what God is doing.
What to Do Next: Your Battle Plan for Fall
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don't try to change everything at once. Start here:
- Pick Your "Warm Drink" Spot: Designate a place in your home for your morning meeting with God.
- Order Your Tools: If you don't have a dedicated faith journal or bible study planner, get one today. Your spirit needs a place to land.
- Schedule Your Sabbath: Put it in your calendar right now. It’s an appointment with the Creator of the Universe. Don’t cancel.
The transition to "sweater weather" is a gift. It’s an invitation to go deeper, to get cozier with the Father, and to realize that even when the wind gets cold, His love remains the warmest place on earth.
You are a masterpiece, and this season was designed specifically for your transformation. Keep rolling, sister. He’s got the wheel.
With so much love and grace,
Charlet Billings
