Walking with the Saints: How to Conduct a Character Study

Will it be easy to truly know the hearts of those who walked before us? No! Is it worth every second of your time to sit at their feet and learn how they handled their Calling? Absolutely.

My sweet sister, have you ever felt like the figures in your Bible are just ink on a page? Static characters in a Sunday school story? It’s time to shift that perspective. These aren't just "characters"; they are your spiritual ancestors: the Saints who have navigated the same fears, the same waiting seasons, and the same battles you face today. They are your "Cloud of Witnesses," and they are cheering you on as you step into your own God-given purpose.

At Charlet's Stationery, we believe that your faith journal isn't just for lists; it’s a sacred space to document your evolution. Today, we are going deep. We are going to learn how to conduct a Character Study that transforms your quiet time from a ritual into a revelation.

The Purpose of the Study

The enemy wants you to feel isolated. He wants you to believe that your struggles are unique and that no one understands the weight of your vision. That is a lie.

When we study the Saints, we are looking for the "North Star" in their story. How did they steward the promises of God when everything looked like a desert? How did they maintain their roots when the storms of life tried to pull them up? We study them not to worship them, but to see the hand of the Father moving through their humanity.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
: Hebrews 12:1

Spiritual Truth: Your life is a continuation of the same story of Grace that began in the Garden.

Phase 1: Choosing Your Mentor

Don't just flip to a random page. Ask the Holy Spirit: “Who do I need to walk with this month?”

Are you in a season of waiting? Look to Sarah or Hannah. Are you being called to lead when you feel unqualified? Study Moses or Gideon. Are you rebuilding after a collapse? Nehemiah is your man.

Once you’ve chosen your person, grab your Bible journaling prompts and prepare to dig. You are looking for the seeds of faith they planted and the harvest they eventually reaped.

Phase 2: The Deep Dive (The "What to Do")

To conduct a study that actually changes your mindset, you must be strategic. This is "Soft and Strategic" living at its finest. Here is your roadmap:

Fact #1: Context is King.
You cannot understand the victory if you don't understand the battlefield. Where did they live? What was the political climate? What was their family dynamic? Use a concordance or a study Bible to find every mention of their name.

Fact #2: Patterns Matter.
Does this person struggle with the same sin repeatedly? (Think of David’s impulsivity or Peter’s foot-in-mouth syndrome). These patterns are mirrors for our own lives.

Fact #3: The Turning Point.
Every Saint has a "God-encounter" that changes everything. Find it. What did God say to them? What did they have to leave behind to move forward?

Truth vs. Lie: The Character Study Edition

  • The Lie: "I can't learn from someone like Rahab or Samson because their sins were too big."

  • The Truth: God specializes in using "unqualified" people to fulfill His perfect plan. Their mess-ups are proof that Grace is bigger than your mistakes.

  • The Lie: "Bible characters were 'super-Christians' with special powers."

  • The Truth: They were flesh and blood. They got tired, they got cranky, and they felt like giving up. The only "super" thing about them was the God they served.

The Character Profile Worksheet

When you are ready to put pen to paper in your faith journal, use this layout to organize your thoughts. Imagine this printed on beautiful Misty Sage paper with Deep Plum-Grey ink.

  • Character Name: (Who are you walking with?)
  • Key Verses: (List the "anchor" scriptures of their life.)
  • Strengths & Victories: (Where did they shine? How did they show stewardship?)
  • Weaknesses & Failures: (Where did they stumble? How did the enemy attack?)
  • The "God Moment": (Describe their divine encounter.)
  • Lessons for Today: (How does their story provide a roadmap for your current situation?)

How to Battle with Their Wisdom

Once you’ve completed your study, don't just close the book! You have to apply it. If you studied Joshua and learned about his courage, then the next time you feel fear at work, you call on that "Joshua Anointing."

What to Do:

  1. Write out a "Victory Statement" based on your study. (e.g., "Like Esther, I was born for such a time as this. I will not fear the king's decree.")
  2. Identify one specific action the Saint took that you can emulate this week.
  3. Track your progress. Use your planner to note how applying these biblical principles changes your peace levels.

A Personal Wake-Up Call

I remember when I first studied the life of Mary of Bethany. I used to be such a "Martha": busy, stressed, and focused on the "surface-level" chores of life. I thought my value was in my productivity. But as I sat with Mary’s story, I realized the "deeply rooted" truth: The only thing that truly matters is being at His feet. That study changed the way I run Charlet’s Stationery. It shifted me from a "hustle" mindset to a "Grace-led" mindset.

You are a masterpiece, my sister. You are a key part of the Plan. Don't wander through life without a map when the Saints have already left you their journals!

The Grace-Led Life: Final Encouragement

As you begin your walk with the Saints, remember that this isn't a race. It’s a "Spiritual Spa" for your soul. Take it slow. Let the words breathe. Let the Holy Spirit whisper the secrets of the Kingdom to you through these ancient lives.

You are growing. You are prospering. You are becoming exactly who He called you to be.

With love and grace,
