Stop Counting Pennies: Why You Only Need One Approval for Your God-Given Calling

Have you ever stood at a coffee shop counter, ready to order your favorite oat milk latte, but felt the need to turn around and ask every single person in line if they thought you were making the right choice?

Of course not. That would be ridiculous, right? You’re thirsty, you have the means to pay, and you know what you like. You don’t need a committee to validate your caffeine fix.

So, why do we do this with our Divine Calling?

Why do we take the beautiful, breath-taking vision the Lord has whispered into our spirits and immediately go looking for 100 people to tell us it’s okay? We look for a "yes" from our best friend, a "thumbs up" from our mother-in-law, and a "double tap" from 400 strangers on Instagram before we feel "allowed" to take the first step.

Sister, I’m here to tell you: Stop counting pennies.

In the economy of Heaven, you don’t need the loose change of human opinion to fund your purpose. You only need the One who called you.

Fact #1: Human Opinions are Pennies; God’s Word is Gold

Think about this metaphor for a second. Imagine you are trying to buy something that costs $5.

You could carry around 500 loose, dirty, heavy pennies. They clink in your pocket. They weigh down your bag. They are loud, distracting, and honestly? A huge pain to count out. This is exactly what it’s like when you try to gather 500 different opinions to validate your Calling. One person says "maybe," another says "wait," someone else says "I don't see it," and another says "isn't that too risky?"

Suddenly, you’re so weighed down by the "pennies" of their thoughts that you can’t even move toward the counter.

Now, imagine holding a single $5 bill. It’s light. It’s concise. It has the exact value you need to get the job done. This is your connection with God. This is the "One Approval" that actually matters.

When He speaks, the value is set. You don't need to supplement His "Go" with 499 human "Maybes."

The 5-Dollar Tools: Your Direct Connection

If the pennies are opinions, then the $5 bill represents the spiritual tools He has already given you to confirm your path. You don't need to ask the world if you're doing the right thing when you are actively using these:

  1. Prayer: This isn't just a grocery list of needs; it’s a boardroom meeting with the Creator of the Universe.
  2. Reading the Word: If you want to know His will, read His Book. It’s the ultimate blueprint.
  3. Worship: Shifting your focus from your "how" to His "Who."
  4. Fasting: Silencing the flesh so the Spirit can speak louder.
  5. Showing Up to Church: Not to be seen by others, but to be with Him.

When you invest your time in these things, you realize you are already fully funded. You can find incredible resources to help you stay focused on these tools in our Faith & Bible Study section of The Grace-Led Life.

Truth vs. Lie: The Validation Trap

The Lie: "If enough people agree with me, then I know it’s God’s will."
The Truth: God rarely calls a committee when He’s speaking to a soul.

Look at the giants of faith. Did Noah wait for a neighborhood consensus before he started building an ark in the desert? Did Mary ask the village elders for permission to carry the Son of God? No! They had the "Five Dollars." They had the direct word from the Father, and that was enough to sustain them through the mockery, the doubt, and the loneliness.

Galatians 1:10 (ESV): "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."

Spiritual Truth: If you are waiting for everyone to understand your vision, you will be waiting until the Second Coming. Your Calling wasn't a conference call; it was a private conversation between you and the King.

Why the Enemy Wants You Counting Pennies

The enemy is a master of distraction. He knows he can’t always stop you from hearing God, but he can definitely try to drown out that voice with the "clink, clink, clink" of human doubt.

If he can get you obsessed with what "they" think, he can keep you in a state of analysis paralysis. You’ll spend all your energy trying to convince people who were never meant to see your vision in the first place.

Remember, the people in the "coffee line" of your life aren't the ones paying for your order. Why are you giving them the power to tell you what to drink?

When you feel that urge to seek external validation, grab your prayer journal prompts and take it back to the Secret Place. Ask the Lord to silence the noise of the 500 pennies so you can hear the crisp, clear direction of His Spirit.

How to Battle: Shifting Your Focus

If you’ve realized you’ve been a "penny collector," it’s time to empty your pockets. Here is how you pivot from seeking approval to walking in authority:

  • Audit Your Circle: Who are you asking for advice? Are they people who are also holding "Five Dollars" (deeply connected to God), or are they just throwing more pennies at you?
  • Document the Vision: Use a faith based planner to write down exactly what God told you. When the doubt creeps in, go back to the written Word and the personal revelation He gave you.
  • Show Up for Him: Stop going to church to see who notices your outfit or your "progress." Go to be with Him. When your relationship with the Father is the primary focus, the opinions of the congregation fade into the background.
  • Practice Stewardship: Focus on the "one next step." If God told you to buy the coffee, go to the counter. Don't worry about the next mile; just worry about the next movement. Check out how to achieve your dreams with God by focusing on His rhythm, not the world’s hustle.

You Are Already Approved

Sister, you are a masterpiece. You are a winner. You are a key part of the plan for the Kingdom in this specific hour. The King of Kings has already stamped your "passport" to your purpose. You don't need a local customs official to tell you it’s valid.

Stop looking for "permission" to be who He already said you are. Whether you are navigating Purposeful Motherhood or trying to Plan and Prosper in a new business venture, the approval starts and ends with Him.

The next time you feel that heavy weight of "what will they think?" in your pockets, I want you to literally imagine yourself dumping those 500 pennies on the ground. They are too heavy to carry. They are too small to matter.

Reach for your "Five Dollars." Reach for your Bible. Reach for your prayer closet. Reach for the One who called you by name before the world was even formed.

Will it be easy? No! The world loves its pennies. It loves to tell you why you’re wrong, why you’re too much, or why you aren’t enough. But you aren't living for the world. You are living a Grace-filled Lifestyle.

What’s in Your Pocket Today?

I challenge you this week to stop the "poll." Stop asking the group chat. Stop waiting for the "peace" that only comes from human agreement. Instead, dive deep into your bible journaling prompts and ask the Holy Spirit to confirm what He has already spoken.

If He said go, then GO. You have the funds. You have the calling. You have the King on your side.

Order the coffee. Start the business. Write the book. Lead the study.

The Only One who needs to approve is the One who gave you the dream in the first place.

Open hands in a golden sunset field, representing surrender and the peace of divine approval.

Stay visionary, stay inspirational, and most importantly, stay focused on Him. You’ve got this, and He’s got you!

With much love and grace,

Charlet Billings
