Does your morning start with a deep breath of peace or the jarring sound of an alarm that signals another day of "running on empty"? Will it be easy to break the cycle of burnout? No! But is it necessary for your soul to survive and thrive? Absolutely.
As mamas, we often wear our "busy" like a badge of honor. We juggle the soccer schedules, the meal prep, the laundry mountains, and the mental load of making sure everyone else’s cup is full. But somewhere between the third cup of lukewarm coffee and the bedtime routine, we lose ourselves. We lose our joy. We lose that vibrant connection to the One who called us to this journey in the first place.
I’ve been there: standing in a kitchen that smelled like burnt toast and overwhelming defeat, wondering how I could possibly be "blessed" when I felt so incredibly burdened. But here is the hard truth: The Enemy loves a tired mama. When we are exhausted, we are reactive. When we are depleted, we are easily discouraged. When we are "too busy," we are disconnected from our source of power.
Today, we are shifting the narrative. We are moving from the chaos of "busy" to the deep-rooted peace of being "blessed." It’s time to find your Soul Rest.
Truth vs. Lie: The Motherhood Mindset
Before we can find rest, we have to identify the lies that are keeping us tethered to the treadmill of striving.
Lie #1: If I just work harder and get organized, I will finally have time to rest.
Truth: Rest is not a reward for finished work; it is a requirement for faithful work.
Lie #2: Taking time for myself is selfish when my family needs me.
Truth: You cannot pour from an empty cup. Stewardship of your own soul is the greatest gift you can give your children.
Lie #3: God is disappointed that I can't keep up with a "perfect" quiet hour.
Truth: God isn't looking for a performance; He is looking for a partner. He wants to carry the heavy end of your yoke.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." : Matthew 11:28-29
Spiritual Truth: Your value is not found in your productivity, but in your identity as a daughter of the Most High. He calls you "enough" before you’ve even checked off a single item on your to-do list.
Physical Rest vs. Soul Rest: Knowing the Difference
Many times, we think we need a vacation when what we actually need is a visitation.
Physical rest is vital: our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we must steward them well by sleeping and eating. But have you ever slept for eight hours and still woken up feeling heavy? That’s because your soul is tired.
Physical rest is a nap; Soul Rest is an anchor. Physical rest is temporary; Soul Rest is eternal. While physical rest recharges your muscles, Soul Rest recharges your vision.
When we seek Soul Rest in Christ, we are asking Him to settle the "why" behind our "what." We are asking Him to quiet the internal noise of anxiety, comparison, and "mom guilt." This kind of rest is only found when we intentionally place our burdens at the foot of the Cross and refuse to pick them back up.
Fact #1: You Are in a Spiritual Battle for Your Peace
The "busy" you feel isn't just a scheduling conflict; it’s a strategic attack. If the Enemy can keep you distracted by the urgent, he can keep you from the important. He wants you so focused on the crumbs on the floor that you forget you are raising future leaders of the Kingdom.
Motherhood is a high calling, and high callings require high-level maintenance. You are a key part of the Plan. You are a masterpiece designed for good works, but those works were never meant to be done in your own strength.
How to Battle the Burnout:
- Identify the Leaks: Where is your peace escaping? Is it social media scrolling? Is it people-pleasing? Write it down.
- Speak the Word: When the "not enough" thoughts creep in, counter them with Scripture.
- Create a Sanctuary: Even if it’s just a corner of your bedroom or a 10-minute car ride, designate a space where you connect with the Father.
Fact #2: Intentionality Requires a Map
We don't "drift" into a life of peace. We drift into chaos. If you want to experience the "blessed" life, you have to be intentional about your time and your heart.
This is where the planner becomes more than just a book of dates: it becomes a tool for stewardship. When we plan our days with God, we aren't just managing time; we are managing our calling.
I started using a faith-based planner not just to remember dental appointments, but to schedule my "Soul Rest." I block out time for prayer, for gratitude, and for Bible study. If it isn't on the calendar, the "busy" will eat it alive.
Using tools like Bible Tabs and journals helps make the Word accessible in the middle of the mess. When you can quickly flip to the Psalms while the baby is napping, you are winning the war for your peace.
The Easter Promise: Rest is a Finished Work
As we move through this season, we cannot ignore the ultimate promise of rest found in the Easter story.
On Good Friday, the world saw a sacrifice. On Easter Sunday, the world saw a victory. But in between, there was a Sabbath. Even in the most significant event in human history, there was a pause.
Jesus’ final words on the cross were, "It is finished." (John 19:30).
Spiritual Truth: The work of your salvation, your worth, and your future is already finished. You don't have to strive to earn God’s love or a place in His Kingdom. You are working from victory, not for victory.
The Easter promise tells us that because the tomb is empty, our cups can be full. We serve a risen Savior who specializes in bringing dead things to life: including a tired mother’s weary heart. If He can conquer the grave, He can certainly help you conquer your Monday morning.
Moving from Busy to Blessed: Practical Steps
It’s time to pivot from inspiration to application. You are a winner, and winners have a game plan.
- Audit Your Schedule: Look at your calendar. Does it reflect your priorities or just your pressures? Visit our time management resources to learn how to align your clock with your calling.
- Start with Gratitude: Before you check your phone, thank God for three things. This shifts your brain from "scarcity" to "abundance."
- Use Your Tools: Get a planner that keeps Christ at the center. Achieve your dreams with God by mapping out your spiritual goals alongside your daily tasks.
- Deep Dive into the Word: If you don't know where to start, check out our faith-based articles or our Bible highlighting guide to help you focus.
- Becoming Her: Visualize the woman God called you to be. Is she frazzled and snapping at her kids? Or is she grounded, peaceful, and joyful? Start becoming her today by choosing one small habit of rest.
You Are Seen, Mama
I want you to know something deep in your bones: God sees you. He sees the laundry you folded at 11 PM. He sees the prayers you whispered over your sleeping toddlers. He sees the desire in your heart to be a "good mom."
But more than that, He wants you to see Him. He is your North Star. He is the anchor for your soul.
You don't have to do this alone. You weren't meant to do this alone. Join our community of women who are redefining motherhood through the lens of the Gospel.
Stop settling for the "busy" and start stepping into the "blessed." Your soul rest is waiting, and it’s found in the gentle, lowliness of Jesus. Let’s lay down the weights together and pick up His light and easy yoke.
You are a masterpiece, a key part of the plan, and you are so incredibly loved.
Stay anchored in Him,
