Finding Your Confidence Through Christ: How to Walk Boldly in God’s Purpose

One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given was this:

“Walk into every room like Jesus sent you.”

At first, it sounds bold. Maybe even uncomfortable. But when you truly sit with that statement, it begins to shift something deep within you. It changes how you view yourself, how you speak, how you move, and how you show up in the world.

Because if Jesus sent you, then you are not walking into rooms by accident. You are not showing up randomly. You are not out of place, overlooked, or unqualified.

You are sent.

So many women struggle with confidence, not because they lack ability, intelligence, or strength, but because they doubt whether they belong. We question our worth, second-guess our decisions, and shrink ourselves to fit expectations that were never meant to define us. Yet Scripture reminds us that confidence is not something we manufacture within ourselves. True confidence is built through Christ.

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.” (Psalm 37:23)

When your steps are ordered by God, confidence follows obedience, not perfection.

Did People in the Bible Struggle With Confidence?

It is easy to assume that the people God used throughout the Bible were fearless, unwavering, and confident at all times. But when we slow down and truly read their stories, we see something different. We see doubt. Fear. Questions. Moments of uncertainty.

God has always worked through imperfect people who learned confidence along the way.

Take Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Mary was young. She was not married. She lived in a culture where reputation meant everything. When the angel told her she would conceive by the Holy Spirit, her life instantly changed. She faced the risk of shame, rejection, misunderstanding, and isolation.

Yet Mary chose trust over fear.

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary said. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38)

That response did not come from self-confidence. It came from God-confidence.

Mary walked with her head held high, not because the situation was easy, but because God had sent her. She understood that obedience would require courage, humility, and faith. Everywhere she went, she carried purpose, even when others could not see it.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

Her confidence was rooted in God’s promise, not public approval.

Confidence Does Not Mean a Life Without Fear

One of the biggest misconceptions about confidence is believing it means you never feel afraid. Biblical confidence does not erase fear, but it teaches you how to move forward despite it.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3)

Mary still faced uncertainty. Joseph still questioned. The disciples still doubted. Even the strongest believers experienced moments of weakness. But God never withdrew His calling because of their fear.

Instead, He strengthened them through relationship.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Fear may speak loudly, but it does not get the final word.

Walking Confidently Means Trusting God’s Direction

So often we want confidence before obedience, clarity before faith, and reassurance before movement. But God works differently. He calls us to trust Him one step at a time.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)

Confidence grows when we stop leaning on our own understanding and begin leaning into God’s wisdom. You may not see the full picture. You may not understand the timing. But God is never confused about your life.

You are exactly where you are meant to be.

Even when it feels uncomfortable.

Even when it feels slow.

Even when it feels uncertain.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

When you know God goes before you, you no longer have to force doors open. You can trust that He will open the ones meant for you and close the ones that would only lead to harm or distraction.

“See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.” (Revelation 3:8)

Confidence Through Christ Changes How You See Yourself

When your confidence is rooted in Christ, your identity shifts. You stop defining yourself by past mistakes, current struggles, or other people’s opinions. You begin to see yourself the way God sees you.

Chosen.

Loved.

Equipped.

Called.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

You were created on purpose, for a purpose. Confidence is simply agreeing with God about who you already are.

This kind of confidence allows you to show up fully. It allows you to speak when you would normally stay silent. It allows you to pursue dreams you once felt unworthy of. It allows you to walk in obedience even when the path feels unfamiliar.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Confidence Is Built Daily, Not Overnight

Developing confidence through Christ is not a one-time moment. It is a daily decision to trust God more than your doubts. Some days it feels natural. Other days it requires intentional prayer, Scripture, and surrender.

Confidence grows when you:

  • Spend time with God
  • Speak His truth over your life
  • Obey even when it feels uncomfortable
  • Release control and trust His plan

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.” (Psalm 28:7)

Every step of obedience strengthens your faith. Every answered prayer reminds you that God is near. Every closed door protects you from what was never meant for you.

Walk Like You Were Sent

So today, wherever God has placed you, walk like you were sent.

Walk into your workplace knowing God placed you there.

Walk into your home knowing your presence matters.

Walk into your calling knowing God equips those He calls.

Walk into every season knowing He is still working.

You do not have to prove yourself.

You do not have to rush the process.

You do not have to earn God’s approval.

You already have it.

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” (Philippians 1:6)

Walk boldly.

Walk faithfully.

Walk confidently.

Because you are not walking alone.

You were sent.
